Anne van Kleeck, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Professor and Research Scholar at the UT Dallas Callier Center for Communication Disorders
”Beyond the Word Gap: Breaking the Poverty Cycle through Early Language Interactions” 
Dr. Anne van Kleeck is one of the foremost researchers in establishing the importance of, creating a conceptual framework for, and conducting research related to preschoolers academic language skills that are foundational for later reading comprehension and more general academic success. Dr. van Kleeck is known for the development of integrative conceptual frameworks for metalinguistic development, language and preliteracy development and socialization in the home, and cultural variation in parent-child interaction. She is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, and has won numerous awards, including the 2011 Dina Feitelson Research Award from the International Reading Association for an article published in the Reading Research Quarterly, the Educator of the Year Award from the Dallas Association for the Education of Young Children in 2015, and the Editor’s Award for the best article in 2014 from the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology. Dr. van Kleeck earned her bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, her master’s degree from Columbia University, and her doctoral degree in Speech & Hearing Science from the University of Washington.
